The room was filled with the clicking of needles and peals of laughter as the Friday Afternoon Get Together group congregated in the communal sitting room at Stafford Court. Friends and visitors shared music, local poetry, knitting and memories of their youths, and took part in a quiz on pub names in the town. The afternoon was rounded off with a lovely cup of tea, slice of cake, scones with rum butter and a game of chocolate bingo!
Currently the group are involved in the WoolSack Project, each knitting cushions from British wool to be given as a personal welcome gift from the people of Britain to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic athletes. (Visit at www.woolsack.org)
Plans are already afoot to participate in this year’s shoe box appeal by knitting small items of clothing to be placed in the shoeboxes. Spend time with this wonderful lively diverse group and participate in their Friday Afternoon Get Together.
The group would be grateful for any wool that people would like to donate to help with either of these projects.
